How to Update Your Kitchen
Every decade has its own unique decoration trends you can spot instantly – from the colourful yet simple 1960s, to the white and hip 2010s. And the best place to notice these variations is the kitchen. With so many items susceptible to change – the appliances, tools and gadgets, walls and counters, to name a few – you can easily renovate your kitchen again and again every couple of years. If, however, you don’t have the money for a complete renovation, you can just update it.
Update or Renovate?
There’s a huge difference between updating your kitchen and completely renovating it and you need to take your budget, needs and wishes into consideration. If you’re almost entirely happy with it right now, you don’t have to do much, so just a few tweaks here and there will suffice. But, if the list of changes keeps getting longer and longer, small modifications just won’t be enough and a complete remodelling is necessary

Update the Material
One of the most obvious décor trends of the early 2000s was the usage of the same material all around the kitchen – the counter, the cabinet and even the island used to feature the same colour, pattern and texture. That’s why you could break this monotony by incorporating new material. If you don’t want to do it on all surfaces, changing the countertop will be more than enough.
Update the Decorations
Decorations from last decade are now old, outdated and boring, so you might want to update them as well. And one of the best ways to do this is by going back in time and using antique collectibles. Details from the early 20th century, for example, will make your kitchen seem more luxurious and trendy and just one small piece, like an antique egg beater from Peter’s of Kensington
, or a salt and pepper mill, can make a huge difference.Update the Island
The Early 2000s kitchen didn’t always include a kitchen island, but this piece is vital in any new kitchen. It provides you with lots of space for preparing and eating food, so it’s a must no matter how many people use your kitchen. Keep in mind that you don’t have to spend too much money on an island, as you can make one on your own
and save some cash.Update the Appliances
You’ve probably bought a new TV or laptop in the last fifteen years, but have you purchased a new food processor, juicer or mixer? If you haven’t, do it right away! These things must be replaced from time to time, as well. A set of new appliances makes your kitchen look modern and elegant, and you won’t have to put any work into it.
Update the Rest
Some of the other things you can update in your early 2000s kitchen are the cabinets – adding new beadboard, doors and modern knobs, for instance – as well as walls, tiles and lights. You don’t have to do much, but start with something small and turn this into a month-long project you’ll enjoy.
