Celebrating its 100th year in 2012, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is an iconic establishment in downtown Winnipeg. The modern building is located right on Memorial Boulevard, mere blocks away from the University of Winnipeg. Containing nearly 24,000 works of art, the Winnipeg Art Gallery is a testament to its mission of encouraging the creation and presentation of art.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is the sixth largest gallery in Canada and a destination not to be missed. Promoting the visual arts in Manitoba and around the world, the Winnipeg Art Gallery makes a point of displaying art from a variety of sources. Exhibitions have included everything from Renaissance paintings to modernist traditions to crafts made of iron, clay and beads. Expect anything and everything related to the visual arts to find its way to the Winnipeg Art Gallery!

This downtown Winnipeg attraction also places a strong emphasis on supporting local and Inuit artists. Be sure to check out exhibitions showcasing beautiful Inuit sculptures, clothing and wall art. It is a wonderful way to learn more about Canadian culture.

And while you are there, why not enjoy lunch at the Winnipeg Art Gallery's Storm Bistro, located on the penthouse level? You will have the opportunity to take pleasure in a great view of downtown Winnipeg as well as the impressive outdoor sculpture garden. It is a unique place to have a cup of coffee after you have toured the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Discussing art over lunch is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

In addition to ever-changing exhibitions, the Winnipeg Art Gallery hosts a variety of educational programs for you and your children alike. Studio programs are provided throughout the year to offer art instruction and workshops. “Art for Lunch” is a program with regular talks and tours of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and it gives you the chance to get out of the office midday. During the summer, enrolling your children in a week-long summer art camp is a must.

Boasting collections which depict Canadian, Inuit, international and decorative art, as well as photography and works on paper, the Winnipeg Art Gallery does its best to display a variety of different forms of visual arts. There's something for everyone at this downtown Winnipeg hotspot!
