Top Five Festivals in Downtown Winnipeg

.Winnipeg Fringe Festival

Festivals are rife in downtown Winnipeg, and cover the themes of everything from writing and professional development workshops, to theatre and film, to delectable food and beverages, to historical buildings and cultural teachings, and so much more. Not only that, but the festivals in downtown Winnipeg also take place year-round! There's always something to enjoy right around the corner.

I recommend you check out as many festivals as possible, but if you have to limit yourself to just a few, here are the top five festivals in downtown Winnipeg that you should participate in:

1)     Winnipeg Fringe Festival

Theatre-goers, rejoice! The Fringe Festival comes around once a year, lasting for a couple of weeks in the middle of the summer. Spend hot days and warm evenings visiting venues scattered all across downtown Winnipeg, enjoying free music at Old Market Square, and watching wonderful theatre shows from amateurs and professionals alike.

2)     Nuit Blanche

Nuit Blanche is a delightful combination of modern art and innovative installations mixed with partying and gallery-hopping. Try your hand at critiquing art earlier in the evening and dance the night away at this “no sleep only art” celebration of contemporary artwork.

3)     Doors Open Winnipeg

A weekend of exploration and learning about history, Doors Open Winnipeg is your opportunity to wander through all of the beautiful historical and heritage buildings you walk past every day of the year and wish you could step inside. Indulge your inner historian and find out why Heritage Winnipeg is so passionate about preserving historical buildings – and get around downtown Winnipeg the novel way via walking tours or the festival trolley!

4)     ManyFest

Between outdoor movies, a farmers' market, wine / beer tasting, group cycling, and more, ManyFest undeniably lives up to its name. Another weekend-long festival, you'll want to set aside entire days (and evenings!) to enjoy the festivities. Eat street food from a variety of gourmet food trucks, take the kids to the “MiniFest” Kid's Zone, and later on in the evening, join in the “living parade of lights” on Broadway.

5)     Festival du Voyageur

There's nothing quite as nice as spending a couple of wintery, February days eating French-Canadian food, admiring sculptures made of snow, and partaking in exhilarating cold-weather activities. Festival du Voyageur is fun for the whole family and the perfect chance to learn about our local history and French-Canadian culture and traditions.
