Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall: Bring cultural experiences together

Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall: Bring cultural experiences together

Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall

.Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall: Bring cultural experiences together

The Centennial Concert Hall of Winnipeg: 253,014 square feet of glamour, culture and architectural brilliance. After the concept was created in 1960, the project was carried out by Winnipeg architects and other international professionals until the building was complete, costing $8 million in total.

This performing arts facility seats up to a capacity of 2,305 people and is designed to expand our arts and cultural experience in Winnipeg. Attracting not only local performers and artists but also international entertainment, the Centennial Concert Hall is a monumental venue. Driving down Main Street in downtown Winnipeg, you can’t miss it: the structure is one of a kind. But it is inside the Centennial Concert Hall that the real magic happens, where, comfortable in continental-style soft seating, you can watch dance companies, musicians and more – both local and global – perform masterpieces. There are also several mural painted by Canadian artists to enjoy while you wait for the stage performance to begin.

The Centennial Concert Hall has been run by The Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation Act since June of 2005 to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the facility.

Home of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Manitoba Opera, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and so much more

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Manitoba Opera and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra all perform at the Centennial Concert Hall on a regular basis, in addition to other concerts and events. The variety of culture displayed and performed at the Centennial Concert Hall is a tribute to its vision of offering a multi-layered, world class facility.

The theatre can be rented out for commercial, charitable or conference and trade show use. Holding up to 1,500 guests, the main floor is used for all kinds of events and serves as an impressive entranceway into the Centennial Concert Hall.

The second floor of the lobby, known as the Piano Nobile, is a special space designed especially as a showcase reception area. The high ceilings and spacious floor are ideal for gatherings accommodating up to 300 people and accent the music from the grand piano situated there beautifully. This part of the Centennial Concert Hall also functions as a small art gallery.

To find out what type of performance will be featured next at the Centennial Concert Hall. You can also keep up to date on future concerts and events by “liking” the Centennial Concert Hall Facebook page or by following them on Twitter (@Concert_Hall), where they also give you the opportunity to win free tickets to shows. If you don’t end up being a lucky winner, tickets for any performance can be purchased at the Centennial Concert Hall Box Office or at any Ticketmaster location.

Selling your house or condo? 8 truths home stagers know

8 things Home Stagers know

.

home selling

Have you noticed that home stagers are becoming more popular?  More people are hiring them when they want to get a really good price for their house or condo.  The reason is because home stagers know what buyers want and they can help you pay attention to the details of your home so that buyers will fall in love with it.

Here are some of the things that home stagers know:

1.     Buyers fall in love with their first impressions. If the front of your house looks great you have likely seen people drive by over and over again when there is a “For sale” sign in front of the house.  They finally come to see the inside for themselves because they’ve fallen in love with the outside.  If you see people drive by once and then never see them again, you know that the front of your house needs some work.  Water and mow the grass regularly, add some potted plants or some flowers, clean the driveway – you’ll find these small details can make a big difference.

2.     Buyers want to feel like they could move in immediately. Wild or overly bright paint colors do not appeal to everyone.  You may love the zebra border along the top of the walls but it is not everyone’s taste so get rid of it.  Paint the walls a neutral color that most people could live with.

3.     Buyers love light. If the walls are too dark the room will feel cave-like to most people so make sure walls are painted a light color.  Also, replace heavy drapes with lighter sheers and raise the blinds to let in the daylight.

4.     Buyers feel better about a home that not only looks clean but smells clean. Make sure that you keep the house clean, as if the Queen of England could be dropping by at any minute.  Remember that people will be looking in cupboards and closets so these should be clean, too.  And above all, it should smell clean.  If the place smells clean, people tend to believe that it is cleaner than appearances suggest.

5.     Buyers do not like clutter. Clutter can make the largest of homes seem small so before you start showing your home it might be a good idea to store larger furniture and pack away collectibles and other personal items like trophies.  The more counter space they see, the bigger the house seems to them.

6.     Buyers like to see newer furnishings. If your furnishings are older consider storing your furniture and renting newer pieces while the house is showing.  Newer furniture reflects better on the home and appeal to more buyers.

7.     Buyers like to see what the house looks like with art on the walls. If you don’t already have artwork that has a general appeal or you don’t have any artwork consider renting or buying some contemporary pieces.

8.     Buyers don’t want to think about replacing fixtures. If your lights, cabinet pulls and other things are outdated, replacing them can be an inexpensive way of giving a room a fresh and updated look.

If you’re thinking of selling your home, take some of the tips from home stagers.  It will likely mean more money in your pocket in the end.

Folklorama is one of the biggest cultural events in Winnipeg

Folklorama is one of the biggest cultural events in Winnipeg

Folklorama: One of Winnipeg’s biggest events

Folklorama is one of the biggest cultural events in Winnipeg

Folkorama is a time in Winnipeg when people can embrace their cultures and show off all the things about it that they are proud of.  It is also a time when you can learn about other people’s cultures – taste the food, enjoy the music, watch and participate in the dances, and completely immerse yourself in a different world.  It started in 1970 as a week-long event but now it lasts for two weeks and each week has 20+ pavilions to explore.

This year Folklorama takes place from August 5– 18.

The way it works is that each pavilion focuses on a different culture.  The pavilions are spread throughout the city and take place on different evenings.  Each pavilion is managed by volunteers that help guests enjoy their evening.  There will be food and drink and entertainment that are central to the culture of the community that is hosting the pavilion.  You can visit as many pavilions as you would like but you might want to do some planning before it starts so that you do not get overwhelmed. Download the Folklorama Travel Guide so that you can start planning!

What can you expect at the Folklorama pavilions?

Each pavilion is different so use the Travel Guide to find out what kinds of activities are going to take place.  Some of the activities you can look forward to include:

  • Children’s activities
  • Outdoor dining (some with bar service)
  • Sit down dinners (you can make reservations)
  • Late night parties
  • Dance bands

What if you want to take in as much as possible?

With an event like Folklorama it can be like a trip around the world if you take in as many of the pavilions as possible but paying individually for each one can get pricey ($6 per pavilion with children under 12 free if accompanied by an adult).  That’s why the Family Pack Passport was created.  The Family Pack is $54 for 12 tickets so you can take in more entertainment.

Make your experience extra special

If you want to have a special experience, consider one of the VIP Tours.  The VIP tours include luxury transportation, admission to three pavilions, an appetizer, main course, and dessert, and reserved seating.  There are several VIP tours to choose from including the Wheelchair Accessible Tours, Late Night Tours, and Party Tours, with Independent Travellers Tours and Cycle Tours new this year. They are only $69.95.

If you are from out of town and need accommodations as well, consider the Canad Inns Hotel Package, which includes a VIP Tour and one night stay at one of the Canad Inns locations and a continental breakfast.  At $148, this is a great deal.

Find out more about the VIP Tours here.

With dozens of pavilions, I’m sure you’ll find great fun at Winnipeg’s Folklorama event.
