As per CNET, a smart home, “a property that is equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) devices or tools that aid in controlling functions such as
temperature, lighting, security, safety, appliances, and entertainment either remotely via phone, table, computer, or with a separate automatic system within the property itself.”
Okay, now we know the definition. But what are the standards for being classified as a ‘Smart Home’. Yes. Turns out, CNET has created a standard here as well!
A Property that has reliable Internet and at least THREE of the features mentioned in subsequent slides, at least ONE of which must be security or temperature control.
So, let’s look at the eight qualifying features that make up a Smart Home.  At least one of the first two is mandatory!
#1: Security Features, which include smart locks, surveillance cameras, and video door bells.
#2: Temperature Control is very important too!
Perhaps the best-known device is the Google NEST thermostat, but also Honeywell and others create remote control thermostat. These allow the user to monitor and adjust the home’s heating and cooling from anywhere in the world.
Your home must have at least one of the items among security and temperature control, plus one or more of the features mentioned in the following slides to make the total of THREE features.
However, if you have both Security and Temperature Control, you just need one more from the subsequent list.
