How Decluttering Will Make Your Home Move Easier - Moving Your Home?

Decluttering Makes Moving Easier

Long distance movers are saying, decluttering your home before moving might seem a bit unnecessary or redundant. You may think to yourself, why organize and remove clutter from my home when everything will be living in a stack of brown boxes soon? While this is a common thought among many people, there is actually a slew of advantages to decluttering your place prior to moving on to the next chapter of your life. Here are several reasons why you should invest time in doing so before packing up.

How could you properly divvy up your belongings into the appropriate boxes when they’re scattered all around your home? While homes always start out very clean and pristine when you first move in, clutter always seems to accumulate over time. It’s just what happens. If you walk into your bedroom and it looks like your belongings belong in some abstract and chaotic Picasso painting, it’s going to amplify your stress levels when it comes time to pack up your things. This will only make the packing process harder for you.

What you should do instead, is organize your belongings into groups, putting similar items into certain sections of your bedroom or closet and tossing any items you no longer need or use. This will also save you the hassle of packing up unnecessary items just for the sake of putting everything in a box. The last thing you want to do is walk into your new home with a bunch of junk you don’t need.

There’s a strong likelihood that many of the belongings you no longer use are still in good condition and are by no means classified as ‘garbage.’ Perhaps you have something that is completely functional, but you no longer have a personal need for it. When this circumstance arises, reach out to family members or friends to if any of your loved ones would like to take the item off your hands. For clothing, contact your local shelter and donate unwanted clothes to those in need. If you have books or movies, see if your local library or community center could use these. It’s a great way to declutter and also give back to others.

Sell What You Can

There are plenty of reputable, convenient websites and smartphone apps designed to help you sell your stuff. Maybe you have a couch that is in perfect condition, but won’t go with your new home, or you aren’t looking to pay the moving fee to transport it. Facebook, Let Go, Craigslist, and many similar sites give you the ability to create a listing for your couch so interested parties can purchase it from you. By doing so, you can earn some extra cash to help pay for moving expenses.

The main goal is to make your move as stress-free as possible. There is a lot that goes into moving and there is money you are going to have to shell out to do so, so it is in your best interest to do what you can to make the process easier. Decluttering your home prior to the big day is the perfect way to ensure that you are making the move as seamless as possible and you never know, you may discover things in your home you had completely forgotten were there in the first place.
