Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Park features Movies under the stars!
Have you ever seen a movie or television show where couples and families gather under the stars to watch movies on a big screen? I’ve always thought that was the coolest thing ever and thought that this would be a great thing to do on a hot summer night. I mean really – how romantic is that? A blanket, a nice breeze, a cooler of snacks and drinks (don’t forget drinking in public is against the law though!) – how could it get any better than that.
Movie night outdoors is a great way to spend some time with your family, too if the right movie is playing and now, you can partake in movie night at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. Every Friday night from August 3 – 24 you and your family or you and a loved one can enjoy the stars and the cinema on the Lyric Lawn in Assiniboine Park.
There is an Early Feature at 7:00 PM so that you do not have to keep the little ones out too late and there is a Late Feature at 9:15 PM for those who have older children or for those who just want a more romantic environment.

August 3rd
Early Feature – Tangled: A spin on the well-known fairy tale of Rapunzel, this fun animated Disney feature combines all the right elements of romance, entertainment and adventure.
Late Feature – E.T. This beloved movie from 1982 stands the test of time, telling the tale of an extra-terrestrial longing to return to his home planet and the young boy that helps him along the way.
August 10th
Early Feature – The Incredibles: A role model suburban family, or a group of undercover superheroes? This animated film covers family love, superheroes and villains, and how one family learns to balance their exciting secret life with a quiet façade. It can be enjoyed by all ages.
Late Feature – Pirates of the Caribbean: Enjoy a swash-buckling good time with this classic! When a band of pirates kidnap the lovely Elizabeth Swan, dashing blacksmith must ally with rogue pirate Captain Jack Sparrow to rescue her.
August 17th
Early Feature – Happy Feet 2: Mumble is back again, this time to save the Emperor Penguins from a dire threat. Children and adults alike won’t be able to take their eyes off the adorable animated dancing penguins.
Late Feature – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: You’re never too old for a little bit of magic. This film adaptation from J. K. Rowling’s bestselling novel features young Harry Potter who learns on his eleventh birthday that not only is he a wizard, he’s also a famous wizard that must fight against the evil Lord Voldemort.
August 24th
Early Feature – Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax: Young romance and adventure mingle in this story based on the Dr. Seuss children’s book.
Late Feature – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Famed archeologist Indiana Jones embarks on yet another exciting adventure, this time to rescue the Holy Grail from falling into the hands of the Nazis (can you hear the Indiana Jones theme music playing already?).
