Four Items You Need to Purchase for Your New Condo

.Condo - Winnipeg's Real Estate Blog - Dream Home

So you have bought a new condo in Winnipeg: now what? Here, four must-have staples for your brand new home! These will help you make the transition to condo living that much smoother. You are going to love the condo life.

Four items you need for your new condo:

1)     A toolbox.

As a new homeowner, a toolbox is essential. Although the outside of the building, and all of the common spaces within your new condo building (such as the entranceway and hallways) will be taken care of by your condo agency, everything that you own within the walls of your new condo is your responsibility. If something goes wrong, it isn't quite as easy as calling up the landlord to get things fixed! While there are many fantastic people out there working in trades with experience you might not have, it's still worth it to know how to fix or put together basic items independently. Get some basic tools so that if a cupboard door falls off its hinges, you can put it back together in a snap by yourself (on the other hand, if there's a larger issue to deal with in your home, it might be time to call the experts!).

2)     Portable heater and standing fan.

These are both a good idea no matter what kind of home you are moving into – especially in Winnipeg, when the weather goes from one extreme to another between summer and winter. You never know what a building's heating and air conditioning systems are like; it's best to be prepared! Baseboard heaters might not work properly and there might not be an air conditioning system in your condo suite, so in these situations, have back-up portable heaters and a standing fan or two to rely on in a pinch.

3)     Multi-purpose pieces of furniture.

If you are used to living in a house, switching to a condo can be something of a shock when it comes to floor space! You are likely going to be dealing with a much smaller space than you are accustomed to. One of the best ways you can take advantage of as much space as possible in your new condo is to get creative with your furniture. Purchase a bed frame with drawers or storage space beneath it, find a coffee table that has drawers and cupboards, and add shelves on your walls to display items that you don't have room for in the storage closet.

4)     Additional storage.

No matter how strategic you are with purchasing multi-purpose pieces of furniture, you will likely still have a tough time figuring out where to put seasonal items and outdoor equipment. This is where additional storage space comes in handy! Take advantage of higher ceilings by buying tall, sturdy racks with shelves to put (labelled) storage bins on. If your condo suite comes with an extra eternal storage unit, that's great! If not, there are many storage unit options for rent scattered all across Winnipeg, and you are bound to be able to find one close to you to keep your seasonal items safe and secure year-round.

With those four items, you are off to a great start with your new condo. Congratulations on your purchase!
